Ellen Marie Cook

Ellen Marie Cook
May 17, 1939 ~ June 11, 2021

Ellen Marie (Wang) Cook, was born May 17, 1939, in Oslo, Norway, during perilous times. A war was just starting but the family was fortunate and she was able to receive her high school diploma. About that time, a tour group from Baylor University visited Norway, and Ellen’s father was instrumental in showing the group around. Among them was then president of Baylor University, Dr. William White and the outcome was a scholarship. She came to the states at the tender age of 17 where within one month she met her husband to be, F. Russell Cook.

During the next four years, she graduated with a BA in Education, went home, got married in the First Baptist Church of Oslo, Norway on June 18, 1960 (exactly 61 years ago today), and returned to the states with Russ.

They lived in Garland, Texas, where they had their first son Jan Russell Cook, moved to Borger, Texas, where their second son Dean Marshall Cook was born, and then to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where they resided to date.

Ellen was raised a Baptist, became a Presbyterian, and loved the Lord through both denominations. She was an avid reader and was member of a local book club where she made many friends.

Together, we loved to dine out, travel, and visit with friends. Our home and our yard are beautiful, thanks to her. These were her two home-place loves. She was the perfect homemaker, making everyone welcome, including myself.

She passed gently, my hand in hers, Friday, June 11, 2021. I will miss her greatly.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Agape Mission, 309 S. Bucy Avenue, Bartlesville, OK 74003.

Ellen is survived by her loving husband Russ; son Dean (Joy) Cook; daughter in law Adina Cook; three grandchildren Daniel (Rachel) Shearer, Justin (Katie) Shearer, and Thomas M. Cook; and three great grandchildren, Olivia, Lane and Nora. She is preceded in death by her parents and son J. Russell Cook.

Services will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, at the First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Stephen Carl officiating. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Walker Brown Chapel. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
