Donna Marie (Damon) Cook, daughter of Francis 'Smiley' and Virginia Burba Damon was born January 12, 1949 at Taloga, OK. She peacefully completed her earthly journey at her home in Seiling, OK on May 30, 2021 at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 18 days. Over the years moves were made to Hawaii, Arizona, Newfoundland, and Louisiana before returning to Oklahoma. As a youngster, Donna attended grade school at Camargo, OK for a short time. She received her high school education at Vici, OK and Enid, OK where she graduated with the class of 1966.
In June of 1966 she married Lynn Dale Salisbury and two sons, Stacy and Kelly were born to their union.
On July 23, 1973 Donna was united in marriage to Kenneth Cook at the Methodist Church in Seiling, OK and Donna gained a daughter, Shelly. For the past 48 years Seiling, OK has been their home. Donna believed in community involvement. She served as a bookkeeper for many organizations, was a member of and treasurer for the Order of the Eastern Star #273, served as secretary and treasurer for the United Methodist Women's organization of the Methodist Church where she was a member. She held a private pilots license and was a part of the Oklahoma Flying Farmers group and served as treasurer of the Investment Club Centsational Dolls.
Her working years began at Great Lakes Carbon in Kremlin, OK followed by the Dewey County Court House in Taloga, OK and Bloomer Oil Co. in Seiling, OK Donna found her true calling in 1975 when she became an employee of the First National Bank of Seiling ( now Seiling State Bank). During her career spanning 44 years in the financial industry she was active in numerous organizations including: the High Plains Group of the National Ass'n. of Bank Women, the Oklahoma Bankers Ass'n., Western Oklahoma Bankers Ass'n., Northwest Oklahoma Bankers Ass'n. and the Community Bankers Ass'n. of Oklahoma. She was a member of the Community Bankers Leadership Development program and a founding member of the Horizon Bankers group, serving as secretary from 2010-2012. She was admired and respected for her dedication to the banking industry and her community. She retired from her position of Vice President in 2019.
Her hobbies and special interests included playing cards (canasta), working in her yard, and traveling where many great memories were made on numerous trips. Her family was a very important part of her life and spending time with them was always special. Donna was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister and friend. Her quiet wit, caring ways and her smile will be missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her father, Francis 'Smiley' Damon and her beloved sister Sandy Washmon and other relatives.
Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Kenneth Cook of Seiling, OK, her sons; Stacy Salisbury of Vici, OK and Kelly Salisbury of Vici, OK, daughter in law, Trisha Salisbury of Vici, OK and daughter Shelly Peterson and son in law Curtis of Olmitz, KS; her mother Virginia Damon of Seiling, OK, brothers Ron Damon of Enid, OK and Steve Damon and wife Lani of Cache, OK. Her sister Lola Martin and husband Ronnie of Longdale, OK. Six grandchildren, Trey Salisbury, Jessie and husband Ben Smith, Emilie Salisbury, Paden and husband Taylor House, Austin and wife Natalie Peterson and Kayla and husband Allen Cass. Eight great grandchildren, other relatives and friends from every corner of Oklahoma and beyond.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 4, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church in Seiling.
