John Compton of Newkirk passed away with his family by his side Saturday, October 21, 2017. He was 82 years of age. John was born June 8, 1935 in Tulsa, OK to Benjamin and Emma McMillan Compton.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 25 2017 in the Grace Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Tom Howard officiating. Interment will be held on a later date. Visitation will be at Grace Memorial Chapel on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
John grew up and attended rock school near Skiatook, OK. He also attended Oklahoma A&M for 2 years. John enjoyed ranching and working Construction all his life building Dams in several different states so he moved to where the job was located. He worked on several Dams in OK with Kaw Dam being one of them. During his working days he was employed by Throop and Evans and Associates and he retired from Evans in 2005. John was married to Charlotte Hudson. John enjoyed being around his family, Fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed going to the Gospel Jubilee and travelling to Branson.
Survivors include; 1 son: Richard Compton and wife Holli of Newkirk, OK, 4 daughters: Katherine Nichols of Berryville, AR, Judith Compton of Shawnee, OK, Anita Harmon of Ponca City, OK and Marie Shaw and husband Kennith of Yukon, OK, 2 sister in laws: Goldie Compton of Perue, OK and Viola Compton of Wagoner, OK, 1 aunt: Cuma Flowers of California. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, wife Charlotte Hudson, 1 son John Edward Compton in 2016, 1 grandson Joseph Allen Evans in 1978, 2 great grandchildren: Sailor Finn Hill in 2009 and Brian Dewayne Tune in 2001 and a Son in law Gerald Nichols in August of 2017, 2 brothers: Bill Compton and Fletcher Compton, 3 sisters: Jessie Lawson, Bessie Zimmerman and Opal Henry.
