Jerry Layne Collins age 71 of Newcastle, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Meadowlake Estates Nursing Home in south OKC. He was born February 6, 1945 in Bruce, Mississippi. He was the middle son of three sons born to David T. Collins and Ettie (Massey) Collins.
Jerry grew up in Mississippi and later moved to the Dallas, Texas area where he finished high school. One of his first jobs was working for Eastman Kodak in Dallas. There he met, fell in love with, and later married Linda Jo Fulton. They were married on July 27, 1968 in Newcastle, OK, Linda's home town. For nearly 30 years they lived and worked in the Dallas area. Jerry worked most of his life for Baird's Bread Company in Dallas as a delivery driver. After he was injured on the job, he and Linda moved back to Newcastle in 1997, to be close to her family. You could not say Jerry without saying Jerry & Linda, as they were inseparable. Throughout their lives they enjoyed traveling thanks to Linda's winning free vacation trips. Linda also won trips for family members. In his younger years, Jerry enjoyed riding and working on motorcycles. Due to failing health later in life, Jerry became a stay at home guy. He was a tremendous help watching after his father-in-law. He also loved taking care of his dogs, watching TV and collecting knives. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy football fan, and an ardent reader of Louis L'Amour westerns. While living in Newcastle he and Linda attended the Newcastle First Baptist Church.
