Don was raised in Ada, OK into a banking family. He graduated from Ada High School in 1960 and graduated from East Central University in 1964 where he was a 4 year starter on the golf team. He and his cousin, Ken Andrews of Stratford, OK, joined and served in the Army Reserve from 1968-1974. After completing the American Institute of Banking and later the Southwest School of Banking at SMU, he enjoyed a 54-year career with positions such as President & CEO of Plaza National Bank in Bartlesville, President at Caney Valley National Bank, President of Arvest Bank in Caney, and was currently serving as Executive Vice President and Loan Officer at Community National Bank in Caney.

Don was an avid golfer and quail hunter through his life. Typically alongside his brother, Terry, they would often compete in regional golf tournaments or could be found quail hunting. He loved sports and could be found most evenings and weekends in his crimson and cream golf cart at the Caney Golf Club. Don enjoyed spending time, holidays and vacationing with his family and grandchildren, especially at the beach. He loved watching all sports from his favorite chair with his family. But most of all, he loved his Oklahoma Sooners and was a football season ticket holder and religious watcher of their basketball and softball teams. Boomer Sooner!
