Ronny Dwain Cole of Dewey, retired U.S. Navy Veteran, died Friday.
Ronny, or Ron as he was known, was born the son of Blain and Beverly (Bruch) Cole on December 15, 1950, in Hominy, OK. He was raised and educated in Hominy where he was active in many school activities including playing the saxophone in the band, playing school sports such as football and track where he still currently holds a school track record. He graduated with the Class of 1969. Ron enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1975, and he served at various naval bases in the United States and visited 52 foreign ports at least twice during his 28-year career. Once honorably discharged in 1999 Ron made his home in Dewey to be closer to his family. Ron soon met and fell in love with Shelia Tafolla and they united in marriage on January 24, 2010.
Ron’s passion in life was his family and grandchildren. He was happy to do whatever they wanted and loved spending quality time with them. Attending their sporting events and coaching and encouraging them from the stands, Ron made sure they knew he supported them 100 percent. He was an avid OU football fan. Ron golfed and bowled and he was very competitive, usually winning whenever he played. He loved NASCAR and other motor sports and enjoyed riding motorcycles.
Ron is survived by his wife Shelia of the home; five children, Brandy Reese and husband Alex, Amber Ledbetter and husband Robert, Jeremy Tafolla and wife Amy, Joshuia Tafolla and wife Amber, and Jestin Tafolla; one brother Richard Cole and wife Marguerite; one sister Loretta Little; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
