Peggy Rose (Kobs) Lipke Cole

Peggy Rose (Kobs) Lipke Cole
August 21, 1947 ~ January 11, 2014 (age 66)

Peggy Rose Kobs Lipke Cole, 66, of Norman, passed away January 11, 2014. Peggy was born August 21, 1947 in Oklahoma City, OK to Averial & Karl Kobs.  She grew up in Mountain View, OK.  Peggy was highly educated, earning degrees from Oklahoma State University, University of Oklahoma, Cameron University, and Southern Nazarene University.  She was a nurse for many years – working at Norman Regional Hospital, Deaconess, and most recently at OCOM.

Peggy was married to Walter Lipke in 1967; they had two daughters – Jennifer and Tara.  Peggy was later briefly married to Jerry Cole, who passed away.

Those who knew Peggy knew her by one of her many ‘hats’ she wore: nurse, horse enthusiast, and friend.  But, first and foremost, she was a mother and grandmother.  There was nothing “Mema” would not do for her family.  When not working, she could be found working on her property, riding her horse (or motorcycle!), doing a project with Tom, or in the stands of one of her grandkids’ sporting events.  No one was more proud of them than she was.

She was a selfless person – would not bat an eye to help anyone – whether it was taking them to the doctor, washing a load of laundry, or picking up kids from school.  While her family called her “Mema”, she was anything but!!  How many “Memas” do you know that ride not only a horse but a motorcycle?! She was a tough, hard-working, dependable, self-sufficient go-getter.  Peggy looked at life though child-like eyes.  Every day was a new day.  Experiences that many found mundane, she found “awesome”!  She was impressed and excited by the smallest and simplest of things.  She was a professional student of life!

Peggy had lots of friends.  She loved going to work every day, and felt blessed to have a great job with nice co-workers.  She made many “horse friends” through trail riding and cutting.  She also had her motorcycle friends.  She had a small core of wonderful friends that she knew for years.  She loved them all.  And then there was Tom.  Her sweetheart she would always say.  They loved each other dearly and made each other very happy.  Finally, she had her family.  She was proud of her family and always made great efforts to spend time with them or get them all together.

Mema’s family loves her dearly and will miss all of the spontaneity, randomness, and hilarity that she blessed us with.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Karolyn (Posey); brother-in-law, Jerill Posey; and sister-in-law, Kay Kobs.  She is survived by her daughter, Tara Crowley and her husband Mikel and their two children Davis and Drew; her daughter, Jennifer McCarty and her husband Curtis and their two children Ella and Rhett.  She is also survived by her ex-husband, Walter Lipke; her brother, Joe Kobs and wife Karen; and her brother Guy Kobs and his wife Ida; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her sweetheart, Tom Steele; as well as her horse, Blessed; her donkey, Gus; her dog, Brownie; and her cat, Molly.

Donations in Peggy’s honor may be made to Blaze’s Tribute Equine Rescue @ BlazesEquineRescue.com or the American Red Cross.

Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 16, 2014, with family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be begin at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 17, 2014 at the First Christian Church, 220 S Webster Ave., Norman.

Arrangements for Peggy and her family were placed in the care of the Vice family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman. Online condolences may be shared at www.HavenbrookFuneralHome.com.
