Carol Jean (Ralston) Colbern

November 15, 1947 ~ July 24, 2012

Carol Jean Colbern, 64, of Dewey, died Tuesday, July 24, in Tulsa.

Carol was born November 15, 1947, to Reba and Ernest Jake Ralston in California before the family moved to Princeton, Kansas in 1979. Carol enjoyed singing in the choir and played in the school band before graduating from Princeton High School in 1965.

Carol married Gary Colburn in 1966 and they lived briefly in Missouri before raising their children in Wellsville, Kansas. Carol worked as a retail sales associate at Wal-Mart in Ottawa, Kansas, for many years. In 2005, she moved to Dewey to be near family, particularly her mother Reba and sister Ann Jackson. When she did, she also transferred to the Bartlesville Wal-Mart store. She continued her lifelong love for the arts. She enjoyed painting, mostly oils, of both the outdoors and indoor still-lifes, and she taught her niece to paint as well. Carol also was a writer, and she often wrote private letters to God.

Carol is survived by her mother Reba Russell and her husband Wilford of Dewey; two sons, Shannon Colbern and his wife Melissa of Meriden, KS, and Shane Colbern and his wife Chris of Osawatomie, KS. She leaves behind her longtime friend Myron Robinson; two sisters, Ernestine Gregg of Paola, KS, and Ann Jackson of Dewey; one brother, Albert Ralston of Blue Springs, MO; three grandchildren, Kevin, Keegan and Cabrini Colbern, all of Meriden; five nieces and three nephews; as well as several great nieces and great nephews. She is preceded in death by her father Jake Ralston and infant daughter Tamara Colbern.

Memorial services to celebrate the life of Carol will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, 3 p.m. at the Bartlesville Warriors for Christ Church. Pastor Larry Miller of the Bartlesville Warriors for Christ Church will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Family Funeral Home.
