Les Coggins, a dedicated family man and respected member of his community, passed away on December 18, 2024, at the age of 86. Born on April 21, 1938, Les lived a life characterized by hard work, service, and commitment to his loved ones.
Les began his career in his early years as a farmer, which laid the foundation for his strong work ethic. After high school he worked for the wonderlich Development Company. In 1965, he purchased H&R welding shop, becoming Les’s Welding, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit. He later owned the Laundry Mat and the Westernaire Club. Alongside this, he owned a hog farm and a game bird business, reflecting his diverse interests and abilities.
A proud graduate of Ark City High School in 1956, Les also served in the Navy, fulfilling his duty to his country with honor. In addition to his professional endeavors, he was known for his involvement in his community. Among his proudest accomplishments were serving as the president of youth baseball, a scout master, and the president of the JayCees. Les committed himself to public service as a volunteer firefighter and remained actively engaged in the Masonic Lodge and former member of the Shriners.
Les was not only a hardworking man but also a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Delores "Dee" Coggins. He leaves behind four sons: Jim Coggins and his wife, Dnarda of Cheney, Kansas; Mike Coggins and his wife, Shana of Kiowa, Kansas; Charles Coggins and his wife, Cheris of Anthony, Kansas; and John Coggins and his wife, Kristi of Kiowa, Kansas. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Savanah, James, Kyle (Britni), Chelsz (Will), Cesley (Derrick), Christopher (Gabby), Codey, Caitlin, Cole, Dane, Brayden, and Brantlee; as well as his great-grandchildren: Reignie, Imogyn, Jad, Jimmer, Kaymden, Grace, and Devon. He is also survived by his brother, Harley Coggins and his wife, Carol of Aransas Pass, Texas, along with many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Les is preceded in death by his parents, Burrell L. Coggins, Sr. and Eunice White Coggins; his son, Leslie Ruel Coggins; and his brothers, Thomas "Tom" Coggins and Lawrence Coggins.
