Ione M. Watson, born September 18, 1923 to Gilley Ezra Watson and Myrtle Orlena Jones in Wilburton, Oklahoma. At the tender age of five years, Iones father passed away.
Ione came to Bakersfield, CA at the age of ten with her mother and other family members searching for a better life and this is where her family legacy rooted and bloomed!
Ione was in the first graduating class of East Bakersfield High School.
She married shortly thereafter to Jack Reed.
In 1943, Ione gave birth to Linda S. Reed and in 1944 gave birth to her son, David Reed.
Ione had quite a spirited and quick-witted tongue; leaving those she loved rolling with laughter! Her keen sense of ability and intelligence landed her a position with the Santa Fe Railroad in 1950. There, she met her favorite conductor. Her love of trains, traveling, family, card games and fun times was shared with her last love, Lloyd C. Coffin "Sandy" whom she met and married while at the Santa Fe Railroad.
After 34 years of hard work, dedication, continued education and a ton of spunk and patience, Ione gracefully retired but never really quit. She accepted a board position with the Santa Fe Credit Union and remained a vital, active roll to the Santa Fe, even if it was simply as a customer.
Ione cherished those who cared for her at CBCC and those she chatted with at Green Frog Market.
Ione is preceded in death by her father, Gilley E. Watson and her mother, Myrtle Orlena Priest.
Leaving behind to cherish her fortitude, grace, sense of humor and human kindness is Iones daughter, Linda S. Cleaver; son, David Reed and wife, Diana; grandchildren, Dawn Murphy, Dyna L. Murphy, Tyler Reed and wife, Katie, and Carrie Reed, and a beautiful host of great-grandchildren, Breanne, Mandy, Paul, Amber, Jacob, Bethaney, Brandi, Anthony, Lyndsey and Morgan; and great-great-grandchildren, Carson Paul, Gavin and Preston.
A very special gratitude to CBCC, Dr. Ravi Patel and staff, Stierns Veterinary and staff for caring for her precious Rosie.
Your beauty will shine upon us from the Heavens for all of eternity Grandma!
