Celebration of life services for Marlene Jean Coates, 72, Perry resident, will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 15, 2021 in the Stittsworth Memory Chapel. Arrangements are under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service.
Marlene was born on July 6, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Morris and Frances (Crawford) Parks, and passed away suddenly on March 8, 2021 in Perry. She lived in Perry most of her life. She had four children, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Over her life she held many jobs. She was a bartender, a cashier, a cook, but mostly she was mom and grandma. Marlene’s joy was her family.
She raised her children and was helping her son raise his children. Marlene had many friends and was described as a “firecracker.” Marlene enjoyed growing a small garden, mostly tomatoes. When she was relaxing she loved to read. Over the years she made many trips with her children and grandchildren to the library.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, and her son, Bo.
She is survived by her children, Lori, Jolene, and William. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ashley, Keegan, Braden, JaCoby, DeSean, Chyna, Asia, and William, her great grandchildren Bailey, Emerson, and Brynleigh. She is also survived by her sister Louise, her brothers, Gregory and Geary, several nieces and a nephew.
The family has requested masks worn for those in attendance.
