Carol Marie Omtvedt Clymer, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, was born on October 2, 1953, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to Harriet Ellen Ekstrand Omtvedt and Arthur Theodore “Ted” Omtvedt.
In 1964, Carol and her family moved from Iowa to Ardmore, Oklahoma, where she attended Ardmore schools and graduated from Ardmore High School in 1972. She went on to study at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant before moving to Norman, where her parents opened a restaurant. Carol later attended the University of Oklahoma for a year, trained in cosmetology, and worked as a cosmetologist.
It was during this time that she met and married William Edward Clymer. Together, they raised three children: Wes, Amanda, and Kelsey. Determined to continue her education, Carol earned her bachelor’s degree in Education from Langston University in 1988 and later received her master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Oklahoma State University.
Carol began her teaching career at Polk Elementary in Oklahoma City before moving to Pawnee, where she joined the staff at Pawnee Elementary in 1989. Over the next 30 years, she touched countless lives as both a dedicated music teacher and a source of joy and adventure for her students. She retired in 2018 to spend more time with her family, especially her great-grandson Jasper, with whom she shared many adventures.
To her family, Carol was lovingly known as “Nana.” She treasured her role as Nana to her grandchildren Spencer, Cade, Kayden, Cheyenne, Claire, Mason, Gracie, and Sophie, and to her first grandchild Dee, with whom she shared a particularly close bond. Carol’s joy only grew as she became a great-grandmother, affectionately “Nana” to Jasper, Kirsten, Isabella, and Jimmy.Carol’s life was filled with love, laughter, and community.
She enjoyed Taco Tuesdays with her friends, cheering on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their activities, and watching all sports.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harriet and Ted, and her brother, Dan.
She is survived by her brother Arlyn (Sue) Omtvedt, her children Wes (Nicole) Clymer, Amanda (Alan) Chapman, and Kelsey (Jon) Fisher; her grandchildren Dee (Chuck) Rivas, Spencer Chapman, Cade Clymer, Kayden Chapman, Cheyenne Chapman, Claire Clymer, Mason Clymer, Gracie Chapman, and Sophie Clymer; and her great-grandchildren Jasper Carroll, Kirsten Rivas, Isabella Rivas, and Jimmy Rivas and a host of extended family and friends.
