Royal Rex Cline

Royal Rex Cline
November 5, 1929 ~ November 1, 2014 (age 84)

Royal Rex Cline passed away November 1, 2014.  He was born November 5, 1929 near Mt. View, OK to Roy G. Cline and Lillian Charles Cline.

He grew up in the community of Lake Valley, OK and was a graduate of Lake Valley High School. He proudly served his country in the US Army Artillery during the Korean Conflict. Rex attended the University of Oklahoma, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. After graduation he worked for the Oklahoma Highway Dept. primarily building Interstate 35. In 1960 he was hired by the City of Norman for the position of City Engineer & Director of Public Works. In 1962, he was offered the position of Project Manager for the contractor on the Little River Dam Project (Thunderbird). Upon completion of the dam, he joined the US Agency for International Development, (the Foreign Service), a branch of the US Department of State. He lived and served as Civil Engineering Advisor to host government officials of the Ministries of Public Works, Transportation and Communications in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand, Philippines and Jordan. In 1981, he was assigned to the Africa Bureau, USAID, Washington, D. C. as Deputy Chief Engineer, providing general engineering support services for the USAID Field Missions in thirty countries in Africa. He was well liked and respected by his foreign counterparts and was a good representative of the United States.

After retirement he returned to Norman. He was a longtime member and elder of The First Presbyterian Church of Norman. He enjoyed golf, genealogy, and traveling throughout America The Beautiful with the Airstream Club.

He is survived by his wife Louise of the home, 1 son, David of Norman, 3 grandsons, Jason and wife of Japan, Kimball of Charleston, WV, Kyle and wife Kassy of Abilene, TX, 1 brother Donald R. Cline and wife Doris of Oklahoma City and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at a date to be determined.
