Memorial services for Doretha Juanita Claxton, of Sand Springs, were held Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry, OK. Elder Connie Bias and Priest Dana McBride officiated.
Doretha was born February 21, 1942 in Osage, OK to David Jackson and Ina (Miller) Lay. She passed away April 28, 2013 in Skiatook, OK at the age of 71.
Doretha was a retired homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was always ready to help anyone that needed her. One of her famous sayings was “Talk to you later, or if you need me before”. She loved to cook for holiday dinners and playing cards with her family. Doretha loved watching OU play football, and going to her grandkids sporting events. She was a loving mother, and friend to all, who will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her sons, Wayne Claxton and Donna of Sand Springs, and Jeff Gutierrez and wife Janet of Mannford; grandchildren, John, Amanda, Josh, Allison, Hailey, Bailey, Brendan, Carlos, and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Tannalyee and Kylie; aunt and uncle, Linda Miller and husband Jimmy of Sperry; aunt, Nellie Ashmore of Tulsa; uncle and aunt, Lloyd and Jean Miller of Sperry; cousins, Connie Bias, Dana McBride, Dianne Eshelman of Tulsa, Kimble Eshelman of Tulsa, Kimberly of Tulsa, John and Michelle Tackett, Henry, and Nathan; sister-in-law, Thelma Mead; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Claxton; mother, Ina Lay; and cousin, Lisa Miller.
