Gene Claunch, age 87 of Purcell, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2020. Everett Eugene Claunch was born February 10, 1933 in Purcell, the 8th of 9 children born to Jay Elwin Claunch and Donnie Delaney (Mason) Claunch. He grew up a farm boy, west of Purcell, picking cotton and broom corn. Gene worked in construction most all of his life, working mainly for Jack Woodrow and Don Huddleston. When he wasn’t working, he loved to fish, watch his grandson Cauy Hollis play baseball and was always ready to help Rocky Bates work cattle or mow on the farm. Gene especially loved old tales about the wild west, and never missed an opportunity to watch a good western. He was a wonderful father and grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed!
He was preceded in death by:
Son, Wayne Keith Claunch;
His parents, Jay and Donnie Claunch;
3 sisters, Vi Martin Jones, Susie Reynolds and Lu Ellen Loge and
4 brothers, Hershal, Buford “Doc”, Andy and Leonard.
Gene is survived by:
His sons, Danny J. Claunch of Wayne and Jimmy Don Claunch of OKC;
Daughters, Kathy Algood of South Carolina;
Cathy Walker of Oklahoma City, OK
Amy Hollis of Purcell, OK;
Brother, Curt Claunch and wife Clara Reece of Lexington;
Private family services will be scheduled for a later time.
