Memorial services for J.V. Clark, 71, of 1 Drake Drive, Falconhead Golf Community in Burneyville, were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 20 at the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Shorow of First Christian Church, Edmond and Rev. Francis Bartley, Jr. of First United Methodist Church of Marietta officiating.
Born August 29, 1941, in Shannon, Texas, the son of John Howard “Mike” and Vera (Horn) Clark, he died Monday, October 15, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Ardmore, after a battle with bone and liver cancer.
An avid hunter and basketball player, J.V. was active in the 4-H and the Baptist Church. In 11th grade, however, his interests soon became centered on Shirley Fox. High School sweethearts at Midway High School, upon her graduation they were married on May 25, 1961, in Buffalo Springs, Texas. They were rewarded with a long and loving marriage, celebrating their 50th anniversary with family and friends in May of 2011. Longtime residents of Wichita Falls, Texas, the couple enjoyed an active fulfilling time there with people who would become lifelong friends, raising two boys in the fellowship of Faith Baptist Church.
J.V. had many interests but mostly enjoyed golfing, fishing, family and time with his friends. Some of his most cherished memories were he and Shirley spending time with their grandchildren and sharing his passions with those he loved most. J.V. was an electrical contractor in Wichita Falls and member of IBEW Local 681. After a long and successful career, he sold his business and he and Shirley moved to Falconhead Golf Community at Burneyville to begin an early retirement. It provided the perfect environment to teach golfing, fishing and driving to all four of his grandchildren. Early retirement soon proved to be too early and he once again began an electrical contracting business, realizing that helping many of his friend in Love County was more about the enjoyment than the work. He was blessed his entire life by a close-knit family and strong friendships, both of which he always treasured.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Howard “Mike” Clark; his mother, Vera (Horn) Clark; and a sister, Darlene Clark.
Mr. Clark is survived by his wife, Shirley Fox Clark; two sons, Keith (Ashley) Clark of Dallas and Steve (Kristin) Clark of Flower Mound, Texas; a brother, Dalton (Nancy) Clark of Wichita Falls; and grandchildren, Davis, Layne, Christopher and Matthew.
Honorary bearers were Sharon Hall, Jerry Bostick, Charles Ed Lain, Ron Myers, Stan Barr, Doug Metcalf, Gene Andruss and Falconhead Men’s Golf Groups.
