Norma Lee (Pierce) Chrane was born March 25, 1928 in Calumet, OK, the daughter of Roy Joseph Pierce and Roxie Lee (Main) Pierce. She lived in the Oklahoma City area all her life, and in Bethany for about 85 of her 95 years. She was in the Bethany HS Class of 1946.
Norma’s talents and abilities included bread making, dress making, and above all, artistry. She worked in the Putnam City Schools cafeterias for several years as a bread specialist. Her cinnamon rolls were the gold standard. The formal dresses she created for her daughters and grand-daughters were extraordinary, but it was her innate ability as an artist for which she was primarily known, and will continue to be known. Norma created thousands of art works, painting scenes on Christmas ornaments, plates, saws, etc. that now reside in scores of homes in Oklahoma and around the country. The high quality of her work continued into her 90’s.
Norma and Justin’s home attracted many young people across the decades, many of whom saw them as second parents. Perhaps some came for the delectable treats she created, but more likely it was that she and Justin fostered an atmosphere of acceptance and belonging in their home. It was both safe and fun. She continued reaching out to others until her final day on earth, consoling and encouraging the residents in the long-term care wing of Baptist Village. On her final day on earth, she went to all her friends there, telling them goodbye and that she was going home. That evening, Oct. 26, 2023, she went to bed and woke up a few hours later in Heaven. We wish to thank the BV staff for their compassionate care of Norma these past few months.
She was preceded in death by Justin, her husband of 75 years; parents, Roy and Roxie Pierce; brothers, Douglas, Wendell, and Dale; sister, Marlene; and granddaughter Amanda. She is survived by her daughters, Andria Smith and Donna Moore and her husband Phil; grandchildren, Amy Sanders, Mindy Turner and her husband Travis, Lindsay Moore and her husband Ken Marshall; great-grandchildren, Addie Sanders, Ellie Sanders, Tate Turner, Trindon Turner, and Edie Marshall Moore; and a host of nieces and nephews. Her life blessed the Bethany community for 95 years and she will be sorely missed by all.
