James Henry "Jack" Childers
April 23, 1927 - May 7, 2017

James Henry "Jack" Childers of Blackwell, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2017, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home at the age of 90 years.

James Henry "Jack" Childers was born on April 23, 1927, in Aransas Pass, Texas, to Claude and Beatrice Childers. At the age of twelve he moved with his family to Blackwell where he attended Blackwell Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1943. Following his education he entered the United States Army in 1946 where he served with the D & G Troop Squadron in the European Theater of Operation in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Blackwell and attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa where he studied and received an associate degree in printing and graphic arts.

He married Wanda Mae Wolfe on July 9, 1949, in Blackwell and they had two sons, Chris and Wes. His wife preceded him in death in 1989 and in 1992 he married Carole Wilson and they made Blackwell their home.

Jack's entire working career was spent in the printing and graphic arts field. He worked for print shops in Blackwell, Tonkawa and Ponca City. In 1975 he began Childers Graphic Printer in Blackwell and with his son, Wes, operated the business until it closed in 1994.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Blackwell and enjoyed outdoor activities including camping, fishing and golf.

He is survived by his wife, Carole Childers and her family; two sons, Chris Childers and wife Debbie of Blackwell and Wes Childers and wife Terri of Blackwell; two brothers, Gene Childers of Alvin, Texas, and Kenneth Childers and wife Delores of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren, Mandy Keese and husband Tommy, Casey Childers and wife Megan, Jaden Childers, Wiley Childers and wife Hollie, and Wayne Childers; and nine great grandchildren, B. J. Glass, Erin Childers, Charlie Childers, Briar Childers, Maggie Childers, Jake Childers, Paige Childers, Reagan Childers, and Lucy Childers.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Reginald Childers.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 12th in the First Christian Church in Blackwell with Rev. Jeff Koch officiating.
