Frankie Hok Yin Chan was born on 17 August 1990. At that time, we were living in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. We picked “Hok” from “Dai Hok” (university) as the first part of Frankie’s Chinese name in the hope that it would give him a breath of a scholar. We further picked “Yin” as the second part of his name that signifies our hope that he would learn from academics, wisdoms and moralists, and go on to become a man who makes positive contribution to the society.
Frankie has been artistic even since his very young age. In primary school, he won in a drawing competition. While Frankie was at junior high school, he settled in Holdenville, Oklahoma of the United States and moved to Norman in 2004. After graduation in Norman High School, Frankie sought to further his study at the University of Oklahoma with major in architecture. At university, he won the Green Architecture Contest. In the summer of 2012, Frankie took up internship opportunities in Italy and Hong Kong. During his time in Italy, Frankie immersed himself in the aesthetically pleasing city of Florence. Thereafter, Frankie returned to the United States to carry on with his final year study. On 21 November 2012, unfortunate event struck Frankie that he died in a traffic accident while he was on his way from Holdenville to Norman.
Frankie earned the compliments from his teachers, coursemates and internship colleagues. Although his life is short, Frankie has lived a fulfilling and valuable one. His learning attitude, idealistic lifestyle will last forever in our hearts. We miss him forever.
