William Laurn Champ

May 22, 1945 ~ December 23, 2015

William Laurn Champ, 70 years old, passed away December 23, 2015. He was born May 22, 1945, in Wichita, Kansas, to Laurn and Janet Champ

Bill served in the U.S. Air Force during the Cuban crisis and served in Korea at that time. Bill was a lumberman his entire life. His grandmother owned a lumber yard in Goddard, Kansas which he and his dad ran for many years. In 1970 he married Kay and they continued to operate the lumber yard for her until 1977 when they sold it and moved to Edmond, Oklahoma. Since that time he has remained loyal to the lumber industry serving in Management as well as sales. His last employer was Hope Lumber who sold out to Pro-Built Lumber. He retired from that position in 2006. After he and Kay retired they spent the first year traveling in their RV. That was a hobby they enjoyed their entire married life. They have two sons, Tom of Edmond, Oklahoma and Troy of Salt Lake City, Utah. At the time of his death Bill and Kay managed Cedar Ridge Estates, a manufactured home park in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He enjoyed riding in his golf cart or taking his dog Bosko in the truck touring the Park. He also loved spending time with his five granddaughters. They were the love of his life along with his wife.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, his sons, Tom and his wife Robyn & two granddaughters, Karly and Kynzee who reside in Edmond, Oklahoma and Troy and his wife Suzanne and three granddaughters Emma, Alyssa and Morgan of Salt Lake City, Utah. Bill never met a stranger and leaves a large legacy of people he called "family".

He loved his church - Community Church in Guthrie and loved manning the "Prayer corner" and was an active leader in intercessory prayer on Sunday evenings. He loved to pray with people and was always eager to tell everyone who would listen how the Lord had healed him many times.

A celebration of life service will be held at Community Church at I-35 and Seward Road on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

There will be no visitation.
