Gary Lyn Cavin, 71-year-old Miami resident, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Hillcrest South in Tulsa. He was born on April 21, 1954, in Springfield, Missouri to O. H. Cavin and Dixie (Oaks) Cavin. When he was in third grade his family moved to Miami, where he attended school and graduated from Miami High School in 1972, he went on to attend Northeastern A and M College in Miami for two years after high school. He married the love of his life, Janet Harris on October 5, 1974, in Welch at the Christian Church. Gary was a long time Wal-Mart employee, working many jobs and in management, retiring as the Photo Lab Manager after 30 years of employment. Gary enjoyed the excitement of watching local fire and police in action and liked to track flights across the country. He also was a photographer and canine lover.
He was preceded in death by his parents, H. O. and Dixie Cavin, and a brother, Harlan Cavin.
The family includes his wife Janet of the home, his children, Craig Cavin and wife Jessica of Ithaca, New York, Crystal Lozier, and husband Zach of Tahlequah; grandchildren, Tasmin and Fallon Cavin, Ingram, and Arden Lozier; siblings, Richard Cavin and wife Stephanie of Springfield, MO, and Ruth Fisher of Maryland.
The celebration of life will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the First Christian Church of Miami Chapel, Chaplain Ken Gerhart will officiate.
