Memorial Services for Houston B. "Butch" Cates, Jr. 68, of the Emet Community will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Tishomingo with Pastor Will Pasieczny officiating, assisted by Pastor Keith McIntyre. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Mr. Cates passed away on Saturday, July 3rd, at his home.

Houston was born on October 26, 1941 in Brady, Texas to Houston B. Cates, Sr. and Willie Cude Cates. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict from 1965 until 1967. During his military time he received the VSM w/Bronze Star, RVCM w/DEV-60 and an O/S Bar. After his discharge he received a BA degree in Computer Science and obtained a Master's Degree in Operations Research at West Texas A & M University. He worked many years as a computer programmer. Houston moved to Tishomingo several years ago and married Elisabeth Muller on November 8, 2003.

He was preceded in death by his father; a sister, Barbara Gunter and a sister-in-law, Marga de Bruijne-Muller.

He is survived by his wife Elisabeth, of the home; his mother, Willie Cates of Madill, Oklahoma; his sister, Lisa Welzel & husband Robert of Seattle, Washington; his brother-in-law, Peter Muller & wife Ludy of The Netherlands, Europe; three sisters-in-law, Ansje, Else & Hanna Muller, also of The Netherlands.
