Mary Etta Caswell was born September 10, 1922 in Wheeler County, Texas to Nora Etta and Harvey Nile Patterson. She passed away January 22, 2014 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 12 days.
Mary Etta attended school at Sandy Basin and later graduated from Wheeler High School. She loved school so much that she attended another year after graduating so she could continue playing basketball and in the band.
She was married to Darvon Caswell on June 7, 1941 in a bar ditch … in Wheeler County. They farmed and did custom trucking in the Wheeler area for many years. They later moved to Pampa, Texas in 1959 where they owned and operated Pampa Wheel Alignment Garage. Darvon passed away in 1980 and Mary Etta moved to Elk City, Oklahoma where she worked as the owner/bookkeeper of Caswell Construction. After retiring in 1989, she returned to Pampa and remained there until moving back to Elk City to make her home.
Mary Etta was an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending games to watch her kids and grandkids play. Even after she wasn't able to attend, she would listen to the games on the radio. She enjoyed riding motorcycles, waterskiing with her family and spent endless hours driving the boat for all the kids. She was a faithful member of the Main Street Baptist Church and loved teaching Sunday School for many years.
Mary Etta was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Junior, a brother, W. J. Patterson, and a sister Wilma Dean Patterson.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Loneta and Gene Hutchison of Elk City, OK; her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Mickie Caswell of Elk City, OK; daughter-in-law, Donna Tatum of Pampa, TX; a sister, Floy Bell Lewis of Amarillo, TX; a brother and sister-in-law, Nile and Lois Patterson of Claude, TX; sister-in-law, Samie Caswell of Elk City, OK; 6 grandchildren, Genna Jones of Sayre, OK, Terry Billey and husband, Carl, of Sayre, OK, Lezlea Wood and husband, Daniel, of Pampa, TX, Buck Caswell and wife, Jessi, of Elk City, OK, Lorie Caswell, of Pampa, TX, Brent Caswell and wife, Courtney, of Pottsboro, TX; 15 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.
