Bertha Faye "Birdie" (Walker) Castillo

Bertha Faye "Birdie" (Walker) Castillo
October 2, 1932 ~ September 27, 2020

Birdie 87, of Yukon, Oklahoma went to be with our Lord on Sunday, September 27, 2020. She was born October 2, 1932 in Galesburg, Illinois to Lee and Delories Walker. She met the love of her life while serving in the United States Air Force in 1953. Joaquin (Jack) and Birdie married on December 15, 1954. Being a wife and mother took her away from the military service, and replaced it with the love and joy that only family can bring. For thirty five (35) years they raised a family of four children, until his death on May 16, 1990.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Jack, both parents, brothers Howard and Jimmy, and her twin sister Betty.

Birdie is survived by her children Becky Lewis (Kent), of Lawton, Oklahoma, Cindy Chambless (Kevin) of Harrah, Oklahoma, Robbie Castillo of the home, and Sherrie (Mike) Unruh of Choctaw, Oklahoma; brothers Larry (Barbara) and Mike (Carol) both from Illinois; twelve very loved grandchildren, Shannon, Shelly, Joey, Holly, Lacy, Chase, Danielle, Olyvia, Avery, Sydney, Tessa, and Hannah; 10 amazing great-grandchildren Ashley, Alexis, Kenzie, Jayden, Caleb, Lexi, Lily ,London, Kara, Hunter, and another baby boy due in February, several nieces, nephews, many beloved friends including her best friend/adopted daughter Nancy Irvin and Ken Garrett, Robbie's best friend.

Birdie/Mom/Grandma and Mimi as mom's answering machine said was the sunshine of our lives. She never met a stranger or said a negative word about anyone or anything with the exception of the baseball team that was beating her beloved "St. Louis Cardinals." She was truly their biggest fan. She watched EVERY GAME each season (162) for many years and had built a shrine in her bedroom of her beloved Cardinals. On May 16, 2019 as the family sat gathered around her living room discussing the news we had received that day about her having Cancer, she was only half listening due to the fact her Cardinals were playing on T.V. Even in the hospital fighting this disease she had a laptop in her room so she wouldn't miss a single game. Her final night on this earth, she went to bed watching the Cardinals who lost but clinched playoffs the day she went to Heaven. She now has a front row seat with Jesus to hopefully win this year's World Series.

Our family has truly been blessed to have her in all our lives. Mom whom we loved won't go away, she'll walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, so loved, so missed, so very dear.

A special thank you from our entire family to mom's beloved son, "Robbie." Right before our daddy passed away in 1990 - he told Robbie to always take care of momma. He has been the BEST son to mom since that horrible day. He's been with our mother every day; caring, loving, and protecting her. It has been his top priority for over thirty years. Robbie, your sisters thank you from the bottom of their hearts, for ALWAYS being there for momma, even in her final moments on earth.

Also want to say a special thank you to Shannon and Shelly...both being nurse practitioners, we as a family leaned on you heavily to guide us with medical terms and provide day to day care when momma needed it. We truly couldn't have got through this past year without your constant loving bedside care.

The family also wishes to thank Dr. Sanjay Hapani and Dr. David Olek for taking care of momma this past year. You literally fought to give her the best quality of life during her final days. Thank you to Jason Coker, her Physical Therapist who worked and encouraged mom daily. Jason worked hard to improve mom's desire to get physically stronger. It was mom's highlight of the week to visit him, even in her last days, she was talking about going to work out.

The family would also like to thank all of our prayer warriors for supporting us on this unbelievable heart wrenching journey. We love you all and most of all.................THANK YOU FOR LOVING OUR MOM!
