Betty Ji Smith was born September 12, 1930, in Caro Michigan.
Date of death was August 4, 2020, at her home in Bethany, Oklahoma, at the age of 89 .
Betty moved to Bethany Oklahoma with her brother and sister-in-law in 1952, to attend nursing school because she was told in her home state of Michigan that she didn't have what it would take. As soon as she arrived to town, she met Charles Delbert Casey. They married July 3. Betty attended and graduated from nursing school in 1963, all while raising her 2 children, working and building a home there in Bethany. The day following graduation she began her career as Head Nurse of the Newborn Nursery at Deaconess Hospital, where she worked for 40 years as a Registered Nurse. Betty loved babies, she loved caring for others and she loved the friendships she made during that time of her life.
Delbert and Betty bought a farm north of Stratford in 1972 where they lived, farmed, and made other numerous friendships there, as well as in Ada Oklahoma, where they attended the Ada Church of the Nazarene until 2015. Betty attended Lake Overholser Church of the Nazarene until her passing.
She and Delbert were married for nearly 63 years.
Betty was a devout Christian woman all of her life. She loved selflessly and unconditionally. She truly loved others as only Christ could. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, nana, leader, mentor, prayer warrior and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, 8 sisters and brothers, father, mother and numerous other family members.
She is survived by her daughter Karen Casey, of Bethany, son, Conrad Casey of Stratford, Granddaughter and husband, Danny and Vicki Long of Pauls Valley, Grandson, Chris Casey of Hobbs, NM, 5 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services; 11:00 AM Saturday August 8, 2020 at the Ada Church of the Nazarene Ada, Oklahoma.
Charles Delbert Casey of Stratford, Oklahoma was born March 25, 1929 in Yukon, Oklahoma to Samuel Ozias and Kathryn Lee (Gallamore) Casey. He passed away May 30, 2016 in Bethany, Oklahoma at the age of 87 years 2 months and 5 days.
He was born prematurely and wasn't expected to survive so he was not given a name. Delbert was placed in a shoe box, packed with cotton, and was fed with an eye dropper for several weeks. When he started first grade the teacher realized he couldn't see the blackboard. After having his eyes examined and getting glasses, he went outside and to learn that trees actually have leaves.
He met and married Betty Smith in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on July 3, 1952. He was employed at the Children's center in Bethany, Oklahoma for 27, years. Then moved to Stratford, Oklahoma where he built a dairy farm and milked cows for several years. He is preceded by four sisters, Martha, Marjelene, Doris, and Elida. Three brothers, Harris, Oscar, and Austin.
Survived by; wife Betty of 63 years, One daughter; Karen of Bethany, OK. One son Conrad of Stratford, OK. grand-daughter Vicki Long of Pauls Valley, OK. grandson Chris Casey of Hobbs, New Mexico. five great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandsons. One sister Beverly Rains, of Norman, OK. Many nephews, nieces, and friends.
Memorial Services will be 1:00 PM Monday June 6, 2016 at Ada Church of the Nazarene Ada, OK. Officiating; Rev. Jimmy Knight.
