Mildred Lucille (Patterson) Carwile

Mildred Carwile, age 92 of Purcell, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023.

Mildred Lucille Patterson was born September 7, 1931, in Alanreed, Texas, the 8th of 9 children born to James Albert Patterson and Ines Geneva (Crawford) Patterson. The daughter of a sharecropper, she lived in various places in her younger years, as the family followed work, before settling in Groom, Texas.

She married James Horace “Jim” Carwile in Vega, TX on June 29th, 1945, and together they had four children, sons, Jim & Joe and daughters Pat & Edna. In 1988 they moved to Purcell. Mildred’s greatest joy was her family and she cherished being “Dingy” to her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great greats. She lived every day to its fullest and was always looking to host good garage sales. She will be dearly missed!

She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Carwile; daughter, Pat Ely; her parents, James and Ines Patterson; sisters, Nellie Phillips, Lela White and Ruby Hayes and brothers, Clyde Patterson, Carlton Patterson, Carl Patterson, Joe Patterson and Guy Patterson.

Mildred is survived by: sons, Jim Carwile and wife Colleen of Purcell and Joe Carwile and wife Rachel of Purcell; daughter, Edna Fithen and husband Johnny of Amarillo, Texas; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchild and 1 more on the way.
