Yvonne Zee "Vonzee" Sliger Carver, 84 of Shawnee, Ok passed away on October 6, 2024, peacefully at home with a Diet Coke on her nightstand and a deck of cards within reach.
Yvonne was born April 25, 1940 in Stratford, OK, the daughter of Lorene Fields and William Sliger. Yvonne graduated from Shawnee High School in 1958, and later married Robert "Bob" Carver on August 22, 1958 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, with Reverand Baugh officiating.
Yvonne and Bob just celebrated their sixty-sixth wedding anniversary. She and Bob owned and worked side by side at Sooner Tackle Pro Shop, Carver's Boathouse, and Movie stars. In her earlier years, Yvonne worked at Kress Department Store, was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone, a realtor at J.W. Kinnett Realty, and was also a secretary at American National Bank. After retiring, Yvonne was a bookkeeper for Wilson Electric for twenty years.
Yvonne joined Bob on many fishing tournaments where she enjoyed reading a good book while he did all the fishing. They spent many years enjoying fish fry's, boat rides, and beach time with their children and grandchildren at their place on Lake Eufaula. Yvonne also loved to play golf and was treasurer of the Elk's Ladies Golf Association for many years, where she also had two recorded hole in one's.
Vonzee, as she was affectionately called by many, especially loved playing bridge with her devoted, loyal and nearly lifetime girl friends; Mary Ellen Martin, Dura McGuire, Bette Atkinson, Gail Ramsey, Mona Haig, Thixe Totty, and Jeannie Douglas. She also looked forward to the time they spent together whether it was at the lake, shopping, or gathering to celebrate birthdays and milestones.
She was an active member of the Boomer Bridge Club with an ACBL rank of an Advanced NABC Master. She had played as recently as a couple weeks ago, and was only a few points away from becoming a NABC Life Master. Yvonne loved and deeply respected her bridge mentor and good friend Justine Thompson. She made many friends throughout the years sitting around bridge tables.
Remaining to cherish Yvonne's memory are husband Robert Carver, son Chris Carver, daughter Cindy Reagan, grandson Matthew and his wife Amy Cranford, granddaughter Katie Reagan, and her nieces Kristi Jones Chesser, Anita Carver Miller, Chere Carver, and nephew Scott Carver.
Preceding Yvonne in death are her precious daughter Connie Joanne, her mother Lorene Fields, her father William Sliger, her sister Sandra Kaye Sliger Jones, her nephew Kevin Jones, and her cherished pets Boots, Bo, and Sweetie.
Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or American Heart Association in Yvonne's honor.
A celebration of life for Yvonne will be held Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Resthaven Funeral Home, 44909 Highway 3, Shawnee, OK 74801.
