Marjorie Lucile Davis Carter was born on July 3, 1922 in Toronto, Kansas, and entered into glory from Bethany, Oklahoma on April 6, 2014.
She was the fifth of six children born to James Andrew Davis and Edith Francis Shinn. She grew up during the depression moving back and forth between Kansas and Missouri. Marjorie graduated from Bresee High School in Wichita, Kansas, and attended her first year of college there.
When Bresee College merged with Bethany Peniel College, she completed her sophomore year in Bethany, Oklahoma. She then traveled to Nampa, Idaho and obtained a nursing degree at the Samaritan Hospital where she met Clarence Lowel Carter as a patient, and later married him in Nampa, Idaho on January 17, 1944.
After helping Clarence through seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, Marjorie was ordained as a minister, and following a year of a pastorate in Ephrata, Washington they spent twelve years as missionaries in India. Marjorie and Clarence returned from India to live in Portland, Oregon where Marjorie became an OB-GYN nurse. About six years later they moved to Salem, Oregon where Marjorie worked at Salem General Hospital. After a time in Salem, Marjorie and Clarence both obtained degrees in rehabilitation counseling in Tucson, Arizona. Their last home together was in Phoenix, Arizona where Marjorie continued to serve as a nurse in Visiting Nurse Services, and later Phoenix Baptist Hospital.
Her children lovingly cared for her in her final days: Lauren (and Laura) Carter in Phoenix, Arizona, and Emmalyn (and Dale) German in Bethany, Oklahoma. Marjorie was best known for her sweet soft voice, broad smile, and listening ear. She was a special encourager to many people with her humble servant spirit.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, James Andrew Davis and Edith Francis Shinn Davis; her husband, Clarence Lowel Carter; siblings: Evelyn Slemmer, Robert, Harold and Raymond Davis.
She is survived by her sister, Ruth Johnson (Max), children Emmalyn Lucile Carter German (C. Dale) and Lauren Wayne Carter (Laura); two grandchildren: Lauren Dale German (Laura) and Ezra Daniel Adiel Carter, and one great grandchild, Destiny.
A Funeral Service will be held at Love Baptist Church, 3030 W Glendale Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85051,(602) 995-2983, Thursday, April 10, 2014, at 10:00 am with Interment at National Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
