Jack M. Carter, born 95 years plus months ago passed away Friday, November 17, 2023. Jack is a native of Durant and a graduate of Durant High School, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, and the University of Alabama.
Jack was an original announcer in 1947 for Southeastern’s KSEO radio, where he met and married his sweetheart, Cecile Elkins, on June 2, 1949. He left KSEO and went on to teach at the University of Alabama, La College, Louisiana State University and Michigan State University before entering corporate America where he finished his working career with AT&T. Jack enjoyed playing duplicate bridge and won many regional tournaments and was ranked as a Grand Master. An avid reader and lifetime learner, Jack consumed numerous books weekly: often reading aloud to family and friends passages he thought were particularly good or fun. He deeply loved his family and believed in the power of reasoned discourse, honesty, integrity, loyalty, and love of family. Jack placed being a good husband, a good father, and a good man above all else.
Jack is preceded from earthly bounds by his wife, Cecile E. Carter, his son, James L. Carter, and his daughter, Cheryl J. Carter.
Jack is survived by his son Jack M. Carter ll and wife Linda of Conroe, TX; daughter Lissa Ann Julius and partner Keith Kennington of Atoka, OK; daughter-in-law Sherri Carter of Mead, OK; grandchildren Cheri Leutz and husband Jack of Dallas, TX, Lindsey Carter of Conroe, TX, Leah Kalm and husband Ricky of Oklahoma City, OK, James Carter and wife Kathryn of Mead, OK, John Michael Carter Luckett of Grand Forks, ND, and five great grandchildren.
A special thanks to the Jack Carter Care Team (“JCCT”) who provided love and care in his final years: Denise, Megan, Shauna, and Lisa.
The family will hold a private service. In lieu of flowers -read a book: Jack would have loved to discuss it with you!
Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Durant Funeral and Cremation Service.
