Cherokee man killed in accident near Alva

ALVA - An 18-year-old Cherokee man was killed Friday in a two-vehicle accident near Alva.

Colton L. Carter was pronounced dead at the scene, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.

The accident happened at 12:48 p.m. Friday on U.S. 281 about half a mile south of Alva.

According to the report, Carter was driving a 2004 GMC pickup on Greer Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign and hit a 2011 GMC Yukon driven by Tommie Westfahl, 34, of Haven, Kan., and pulling a 40-foot John Deere header. Westfahl and two juvenile passengers, ages 5 and 9, were not injured.

The report lists the cause of the accident as exceeding the speed limit and failure to stop.
