Jerome “Jerry” Carson, age 75 of Norman, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at his home. Jerome Leland Carson was born December 12, 1937 in Fairmont, MN, 1 of 6 children born to William Carson and Ann Rettke.
He grew up in Minnesota and attended school there. At age 17, Jerome joined the United States Navy and served his country proudly during Vietnam. This would become a lifelong career, and some 22 years later, he retired as a Hydrolic Tech.
Jerome married Hazel Parish Carson in 1984 and they made their home in Lexington. Jerome began working with the Department of Corrections at the Joseph Harp Correctional Center in Lexington, before moving to LARC. In 2000, health forced them to move to Monroe, LA to be close to family. Jerome was very gifted with his hands and enjoyed woodworking. He especially enjoyed building toy boxes and bird houses. He loved to travel and never missed an opportunity to go fishing. He will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by: His wife, Hazel Parish Carson, in August of 2010; His parents, William and Ann Carson; 3 brothers, Byrl, Don and Morris Carson and an Infant great-granddaughter, Kenley Alese Thomason.
Jerome leaves behind: 3 sons, Donnie Carson and wife Denise of Sitka, AL, Kenny Carson of Purcell and Ken Parish and wife Carla of Wynnewood; 3 daughters, Theresa Stewart and husband Mike of Snellville GA, Patty Carson of Purcell and Sharlotte Parish of the home 2 sisters, Evelyn Johnston of OR and Miriam Favrow of CA; 9 grandchildren, Donnie Carson Jr, and wife Gwen of Alaska, Annie Carson of Alaska, Charles Perry and wife Misty of Oklahoma, Andrea Turk of Georgia, Kenica Thomason, and husband Brandon of Oklahoma, Shelli Coleman and fianc� J.R. Brown of the home and Kendra and Rolin Carson of Oklahoma; 6.5 great-grandchildren: Rayne & Luna Khan of Alaska, Brooklynn & Ethan Perry of Oklahoma, Karson Coleman of the home, Cyrus & arriving in April, Baby Boy Thomason of Oklahoma and Daughter-in-love, Patsy Gilleland and special caretaker Bryan Rolin.
A Private Memorial Service is scheduled for a later date.
