A Life Well Lived
September 16, 2026, quite a reunion occurred as Heaven welcomed Donnie Laudane “Dane” Carr, loving Mom, Grandma and “Mamu". After a long and beautiful life of 99 years, lots of loved ones waited with Jesus to greet her. She is finally Home.
Dane was born November 24, 1926 in Electra, TX to Clarence and Ida Pearl (Amonett) West. She grew up in McCamey, TX with siblings Kay, John, and Nelda. While working at EXXON, she met the love of her life, Cecil Truitt Carr. They were married June 22, 1946, and together raised two children, Don and Margaret. As a family, they lived in Station B, Odessa and Kingsville, TX. After the loss of Cecil, Dane moved to Lubbock, TX where she lived for several years, eventually landing in Edmond, OK to be closer to family.
Not long after arriving in Edmond, she found her church family at Edmond Church of Christ and immediately became involved. Jesus was her foundation and that was evident in the way she lived her life. Her faith was not just something she talked about, it was something she carried with her and shared with others. Dane loved people; her joy was contagious and felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Whether with her family, friends or a complete stranger, Dane had a way of making people feel loved, welcomed, and important.
She had a special love of elephants. Her collection became a perfect symbol of who she was, the matriarch and spiritual leader of our family. She was the glue that held us together – the one who made sure we gathered, stayed connected, and made memories. She loved planning family reunions and bringing everyone together. She loved entertaining and filling her home with people, laughter and good times. She especially loved playing games with her family, and the funnier the better. She knew how to turn an ordinary gathering into a memory that would be talked about for years to come.
She leaves behind a lifetime of memories, love, laughter, and kindness, but her greatest legacy is the seeds of faith she planted in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Dane was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Pearl West; her siblings, Kay Shaw and her husband, Jim; John West and his wife, Audrey; Nelda Loyd and her husband, Bill; and her daughter-in-law, Sue Carr.
She is survived by her son, Don Carr; her daughter, Margaret Herber and her husband, Carl; her grandchildren, Melissa (Missy) McGregor, Stephanie Cutrer, Renee Williams, Monica Jones, and Brian Herber; her great-grandchildren, Mackenzi Broadbent, Madison Simpson, Truitt Williams, Truitt Cutrer, Trevin Cutrer, Brayden Jones, Shana Cutrer, Rylan Jones, Shiloh Cutrer, and Holden Jones; and her great-great-granddaughter, Emmerson Sue Broadbent.
Funeral Services for Donnie Carr will be at the Matthews Funeral Home Chapel Monday September 21, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will take place at Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene, TX on Tuesday September 22, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
