Roger L. Carpenter, 80, passed away August 22, 2018, at the Montereau Skilled Nursing Facility in Tulsa, OK, after a prolonged illness.
He was born July 3, 1938, to Ira and Marjorie Carpenter in Mooreland, OK, where he was raised and educated. He married Sue C. Burdick in Mooreland in 1958 and they later divorced.
Roger earned a B.A. in Music from Wichita State University and became a choral music instructor in western Kansas. In 1966, Roger began to acquire interests in Sonic Drive-In restaurants in Kansas.
In 1983, he met and soon married Linda D. Slupski, a commercial designer based in Dallas, TX. They lived in Coffeyville, KS, for many years. Together they continued expansion and development of Sonic franchises throughout the Midwest, and also developed the Eggbert's Restaurant chain and commercial real estate.
Roger and Linda relocated to Bartlesville, OK, in 2002, and lived there until Roger's illness brought them to Montereau in 2015.
Roger served on the Board of Directors of Sonic Industries as well as boards for numerous business ventures. He had an abiding interest in music, fine arts, antiquities and innovative ideas. His presence will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his sons, Brent Carpenter of Lawrence, KS, Neal Carpenter of Dallas, TX, Jeffery Slupski of Tulsa, OK, and Bradley Slupski of Shawnee, KS; his sister, Lois Williams of Oklahoma City, OK, and brother Keith Carpenter of Iola, KS. He is also survived by five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ruth Camerer.
Burial will be conducted August 27, 2018, in a private family service under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home of Bartlesville.
