Arlene Joan (Foster) Carney
September 16, 1936 ~ April 2, 2023

Arlene Joan Carney, 86, of Owasso, OK passed away peacefully Sunday, April 2,2023 in Collinsville, OK. She was born September 16, 1936, in Waukegan, IL to Howard Foster and the former Ruth Pennock. She had lived in Owasso for 15 years. While living in Illinois, she attended the Art Institute of Chicago and was an artist. She was also a bookkeeper for Beach Park Animal Hospital and the Lake Pointe Press.

Arlene loved all animals and was known to hide them in the house growing up – including a skunk and alligator under her bed. She always brought home injured animals to nurse them back to health as a child. Later in life she found her love of horses. She was a member of the Wadsworth Wranglers where she would ride and show her horses. She also bred Appaloosas in addition to raising chickens, cows, cats, dogs and had a pet racoon. At the Animal Hospital she would bring home injured birds, orphaned rabbits, kittens and puppies. Then would rehome them or release the wild animals back into the wild.

After moving to Oklahoma, she was a docent at the Tulsa Zoo where she continued to take care of the animals. She was a member of the First Assembly Church of Owasso.

Memorial services will be 1:00 pm. Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the Owasso First Assembly of God Church, 9341 N 129th E Ave., Owasso, Ok 74055

She is survived by her daughter: Kathy Szwedo and her husband Wes of Collinsville. 1 grandchild: Jennifer Rigney and her spouse Sam of Broken Arrow, OK, 2 Great-grandchildren: Corbin Gatzke of Tulsa and Arianna Gatzke of Broken Arrow, OK. She is also survived by a special friend: Maria Gardner.

She is preceded in death by 1 brother: Bert Foster.
