January 29, 1954 ~ January 12, 2023 (age 68)

Willa Jo Canfield, née Hiss, died with her family around her on Thursday, January 12, 2023, after a severe illness. She was born January 29, 1954, in Great Bend, Kansas.

Willa is survived by her husband, Tom Canfield of Norman; her brother, Bob Hiss and his wife Brenda of Oklahoma City; her mother-in-law, Barbara J. Canfield of Norman; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert Canfield and wife Sidney of Surfside Beach, Texas, Dawn Canfield, of Los Angeles, California, David Canfield and wife Stephanie of Columbia, South Carolina, Jillian Elaine Vroenen and husband Matt of Moore; Dan Canfield and wife Eve of Sacramento, California; one nephew; six nieces; two great-nephews; and seven great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Betty Jo Hiss of Norman and Will Hiss of Oklahoma City; and her brother-in-law, John Canfield of Los Angeles.

A graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a degree in vocational home economics, Willa was a member of Chi Omega women’s fraternity. She enjoyed a full, productive, and meaningful life as a home economics teacher and later worked in the family businesses of farming and real estate.

Diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus at 17, Willa was determined to live her life to its fullest and did so every day. She was an inspiration to us all with her good humor, willingness to help, and warm and loving presence.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Lupus Foundation, Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, or City Rescue Mission.
