Karen Annette (Berg) Canfield
August 10, 1942 ~ January 07, 2018

Karen Annette (Berg) Canfield, 75, passed away peacefully in her sleep January 7, 2018. She was predeceased by her parents, Ernie Berg and Rosalie (Schmidt) Berg.

Born at St Mary's Hospital, Enid, OK, August 10, 1942. Karen graduated from Enid High School in 1960.

She earned her B.A. from Oklahoma State University 1964, and later earned her M.L.A. from Johns Hopkins University in 1974.

She volunteered at the Henry Street Settlement House in New York City during her college summer break, where she gained an appreciation for life on the East Coast.

She was a dedicated and talented high school U.S. History teacher. After spending her early teaching years in Heath, OH and New Haven, CT, she spent over 30 years teaching in the Baltimore County School System at Woodlawn High and Hereford High.

Karen was extremely devoted to the Columbia (MD) Baptist Fellowship for over 30 years, where she served as deacon, choir director, pianist/ organist, and Sunday School teacher. She also served as choir director of the Alleluias for 13 years.

Over her lifetime, she contributed to many worthwhile social causes, and traveled extensively throughout Europe, making special trips to China and the Holy Lands with her sister Denice.

Karen is survived by her two loving sons, Brad and Jeff, of whom she was very proud, her daughters-in-law Julie and Laura, her cherished grandsons, Jake, Ted, Kyle, Bobby, and Harry, and six nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by her beloved siblings, John Berg and his wife Debbie, and Denice Fothergill and her husband Tim, with whom she shared many laughs, good times, and great memories.

Karen lived a full and meaningful life, leaving a lasting impression on countless students, fellow church members, family, and friends with her teaching, her music, and her love and compassion. She will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Gilchrist Hospice Howard County, Columbia, Maryland.
