Fred W. Canaday
May 27, 1938 ~ April 8, 2020

There will be a private family service for Fred W. Canaday, 81 of Lahoma. Visitation will be Monday and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. A celebration of Fred's life will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.

Fred was born at Warren County, IA, on May 27, 1938, to Wilson A. and Pauline Mae Darr Canaday, and passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2020, in Oklahoma City. At the age of 10, Fred contracted polio, which challenged him with some physical abilities. He overcame these early challenges and went on to play basketball and football and graduated from Carlisle, IA, High school in 1957. He married Virginia Vander Linden on April 2, 1977, in Marion County, IA.

Fred was a hard worker, he farmed, drove a school bus, was a service man for Sears in Las Vegas, was a house framer and carpenter, as well as being a custom agriculture applicator, which brought him to Oklahoma in 1981. He was honored as being an Easter Seals poster child. He was truly his own man, and enjoyed being outdoors, boating, water skiing, camping, and fast cars. He retired from Great Plains Coop.

Fred is survived by his wife Virginia and 3 children, Chad Vander Linden, Jennifer Sims and husband
Clint, Leslie Houston and husband Keith. From his first wife are children, Jay Canaday, Jaclyn Zanoni and husband Ralph, Janea Freitag. Grandchildren; Timothy Goering, Josh Goering, Paula Freitag, Lori Troupe, Reagan Sims, Carter Sims, Hudson Box and Luke Houston. Great-Grandchildren; Olivia, Nathan, and Rosalie Goering, and Sophia Barnes. A sister; Phyllis Canaday. He was preceded in death by his parents, two great-grandchildren Odette and Zack Troupe, and a brother Ben.
