Eva Mae (Fourkiller) Camando

Eva Mae (Fourkiller) Camando
May 8, 1928 ~ August 26, 2020

Eva Mae Fourkiller Spain Comando, age 92, of Stilwell passed away at her home in Stilwell on August 26, 2020. She was born on May 8, 1928 down on the creek in Stilwell, Oklahoma. She lived in Stilwell and went to Maryetta School and then on to Stilwell High School. When she graduated, she went to nursing school in Muskogee for 3 years. She moved to Tulsa and began her nursing career. She married Paul Spain in 1950 and they had 3 children, Eric, Stephen and Paula. Paul was killed in a tragic train accident in 1956 and Eva raised her children as a single mom until they left home. She was always involved with the children, coaching their ball teams through the years. She was a big sports fan! Go Sooners! She later married Sal Comando and he passed in 1988.

She retired from nursing after 30 years of which she spent the majority of her career at Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital as an operating room technician. She started to work for the public school systems around Tulsa doing before and after care. When her mother passed she moved back to Stilwell as promised to her mom and has been at the homestead ever since. She started working for the Foster Grandparent Program where she was a granny at Maryetta where she began her own schooling as a child. She remained there over 20 years until she fell and hit her head at home and developed vascular dementia. She didn't want to scare the kids by falling so she stayed home the past 3 years until she got well and could return. Just 2 weeks ago she said "I'm going back to school when I get well." She was a little "Energizer Bunny" that wouldn't stop. She was a member of Chuculate Baptist Church.

She was known as "Spank" by most and "Aunt Spanky" by the nieces and nephews. That was for "Spanky and her gang." She was the oldest of 12 children, two of which passed as infants. She helped raise the boys until she left home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Flora Hogner Fourkiller; son Stephen, brothers Sim, Bob, Grover, Sam and Bill. She is survived by daughter Paula Spain Glover; sons Eric Spain and Joe Smith; brothers Raymond and wife Pat, Tommy and wife Brenda; sisters Donna and Brenda; grandchildren Lisa, Dennis, Stephenie, Lindsey, Eric and Cammie; great grandchildren Amanda, Jessica, Ethan, Caleb, William, Ryan, and Emily; great-great grandchildren Logan, Alex and Ayden. Numerous nieces, nephews and a special niece, Joyce, and a special nephew, Jeremy.
