Enid Man Killed In Shoot - Out

By David Heath, Staff Writer

A feud between two men erupted in a shoot - out southeast of Ringwood Sunday, leaving a 33-year-old Enid man dead and a 38 - year - old Ringwood man injured, authorities said.

Thomas Victor Byrd, Enid, died instantly from a gunshot wound to his abdomen, said Dr. John Harris, Major County medical examiner. Dwight Gauley, Ringwood, suffered a gunshot wound to his left arm and was expected to be released from a Fairview hospital today, Harris said.

The two men were arguing in Gauley's mobile home Sunday afternoon about personal property when suddenly guns were pulled, Undersheriff Allen Davis said without elaborating. Several shots were fired inside the home, he said.

Members of Gauley's family were at home during the shooting but were not injured, Davis said.

"We're not sure what charges, if any, will be filed," Davis said today.

The Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation has been asked to help in the case. Authorities were notified of the shooting about 4 PM Sunday.
