Marcella Ruth (Fuller) Plank Bynum

Marcella Ruth (Fuller) Plank Bynum
Aug 14, 1920 ~ Feb 4, 2014

Marcella Plank Bynum, 93 year old Woodward resident, died Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Grace Living Center in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church of Woodward with the Reverend Shannon Davis officiating. A private family burial will be held.

Marcella Ruth Fuller Plank Bynum was born to Art Fuller and Hannah (Martinson) Fuller on August 14, 1920 in Woodward, Oklahoma in the house she grew up in on 8th street. She attended Woodward Public Schools and graduated from Woodward High School in 1938. She married Wendell D. Plank in 1938, making their home in Woodward, and four children were born to this union. After Wendell’s death in 1980, Marcella married Nyle Bynum.

Marcella was very civic minded and instrumental in establishing several community organizations. The history of Woodward County was one of her passions. As a result she was one of the founders of the Pioneer Museum and served on the board of directors for several years and was employed as the curator for two years. She was active in the First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and belonged to the Madeline Klepper Women’s Circle. One of her fondest memories was being named Woodward Elks Rodeo Queen in 1937 and having the privilege of wearing the first women’s rodeo outfit made by Trego’s Western Wear.

Marcella enjoyed all holidays and special occasions where she had an opportunity to express her creative talent. Never wasting anything, she had a knack for turning everyday things into a work of art. She loved painting pictures, especially of early day Woodward, doing needlepoint crafts, and making things for her family. Her green thumb was obvious in her extensive flower beds as she was always looking for a new flower to give a try.

Marcella was preceded in death by both husband’s Wendell D. Plank and Nyle Bynum; a son Wendell A. Plank; a grandson Dustin Plank; her parents; a sister Dorothy Rodgers; a brother Walter Fuller.
