Mary Margaret Buvinger, 73, died Saturday, September 5, 2020, at home in Melbourne Beach, FL.
Mary was born to the late Wilson J. and Margaret S. Buvinger on Sept. 9, 1946, in Trenton NJ, grew up in Enid, OK, graduated from Enid High School in 1964, from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, VA, in 1968, and earned a Master's degree in Organic Chemistry from Purdue University. She was a researcher in the chemical polymer division of the Upjohn Company in Houston, Texas, before moving to Florida with her husband in 1982.
Mary enjoyed running and cycling and was a competitive tennis player in the Brevard County Woman's League. She was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2007, but didn't let the disease slow her down, and even participated in the 30th anniversary Pineappleman Triathlon in 2015. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Mary is survived by her husband Thomas Hoffman and son Matthew Hoffman, Melbourne Beach, FL; sisters Anne Buvinger, Edmond, OK; Sarah Welch, Tulsa, OK; Nancy Buvinger, Whittier, CA; Lois Williams, Bakersfield, CA; and brother Wilson Buvinger, Enid, OK.
The family plans a private memorial and requests that donations be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
Cremation is under direction of Davis Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory, Melbourne, FL.
