Betty Jean (Sattelmeier) Buss

Betty Jean (Sattelmeier) Buss
October 25, 1937 ~ June 7, 2019

The memorial service for Betty Jean Buss will be 11:00am Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Breckenridge, OK. Pastor Travis Orr will officiate. Visitation with family and friends will precede the service, 9:30am-10:30am, at the Church. A private family burial will be held at a later time. Services are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

Betty was born October 25, 1937 in Enid to Walter and Deborah Mary (Dierksen) Sattelmeier and passed away June 7, 2019 in Owasso, surrounded by her loving family.

From a young age, Betty was always involved in her Church. Baptized on November 19, 1937, she spent her entire life serving others and the Lord. She attended first through eighth grades at the Parochial School through Immanuel Lutheran Church. She went on to attend Hunter High School, where she met a young man named Donald Buss. Together, they continued their education at Oklahoma State University where Betty earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1959. On August 24, 1958, Betty and Don were married in the same Church she grew up in. After graduation, they made their home in Hunter where Don was manager of the Sheep Sales for the Enid Livestock Commission Company. Betty began teaching at Roosevelt Elementary in Enid before taking a job at Hunter Elementary and finally, Pond Creek Elementary before her retirement. All the while, she raised her family, worked on the farm alongside Don and continued her dedication to her Church by being a Weekday Class teacher for numerous years.

Hobbies that were so very dear to Betty involved entertaining for family and neighbors in order for them to get to know and stay involved with one another. She also took great pride in hosting annual summer picnics for Northwest Lutheran Pastors as well as Christmas parties for Circuit Pastors. Her grandchildren's birthday parties were especially important to her. Commemorative toys can still be found in the hay barn to this day.

Betty was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Retired Teachers Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don in 1980 and her parents.

Betty is survived by her children, David Buss and wife, Tami of Hunter; Sulyn Manry and husband, Dustin of Skiatook; six grandchildren, Kearstin Davis and husband, Trevor of Pond Creek; Tucker and Bo Buss of Hunter; Justin, Cody and Crystal Manry of Skiatook; three great-grandchildren, Isabella, Remington and Stetson Davis, all of Pond Creek as well as numerous cousins.

Memorials can be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church or OMRF-Alzheimer's Division with Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home acting as custodian of the funds.
