Dee Wayne Burton, 66, of Bartlesville, died Friday in Neosho, not far from one of his favorite places on earth - Branson, MO.
Dee Wayne was born the son of Dee Ware and Esther Marie (Newport) Burton on October 31, 1952, in Bartlesville. He was raised and received his early education in Bartlesville. Growing up he loved visiting his grandparents' farm in Osage County where they grew watermelons that were better than any he could buy around town. Dee Wayne attended and graduated from Independence Bible College in Independence, KS, in 1970. He lived most of his life in the area and for a short while in Nebraska.
While working at Phillips Petroleum Co, he had a chance encounter that would change his life – he ran into Jamie Lynn Allred in the elevator. Through mutual friends they connected and quickly fell in love. They united in marriage on August 30, 1996, in Eureka Springs. They made their home on a 15 acre farm in Osage County where over the years he adopted many abandoned dogs that he dearly loved. Dee Wayne went on to work for Bartlesville Public Schools and retired early due to health reasons in the early 2000s.
Dee Wayne and Jamie shared a love for Branson "The Live Entertainment Capitol of the World." Every year, they took several trips there and enjoyed its many live music shows including his favorite Legends In Concert which showcased the best live tribute artists and choreography. Most of all he loved his family and spending precious time with them.
Dee Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 22 years Jamie of the home, parents Dee Ware and Esther Marie (Newport) Burton, one brother Phillip Burton and Lisa of Bartlesville, and one sister Ruby Baugus and Garland, also of Bartlesville. He is preceded in death by one brother Jerry Burton.
