Gladys (Petty) Burse

April 16, 1916 ~ May 24, 2006

Visitation for Gladys Burse will be held at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles Street) on Monday, May 29, 2006 from 11:00 - 2:00 pm. Graveside services will be held at Union Cemetery in the Garden of Roses on Tuesday afternoon, May 30, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. Chaplain Pat Roberts will officiate.

Gladys was born April 16, 1916 in Antlers, Oklahoma to the parents of James Petty and Georgia Anna Williams. She married Thomas Oliver Burse at an early age and to this union were born three sons and one daughter.

Mrs. Burse worked all her life in the field of housekeeping for several influential families except for a short stint at the Oakland, CA shipyards during WW I as a maintenance worker.

Gladys is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Thomas Oliver Burse; all her sons, Thomas O., Jr., Fred E. and Lowell O. Burse; brother, Fred Petty and her grandson, Lowell E. Norman.

She leaves to mourn her daughter, Ms. LoeDee Burse of Bakersfield, CA; brother, Ray Roberson, and his wife, Verna of Bakersfield, CA; three grandons, Steve Burse and wife, Barbara, Richard Burse of San Bernardino, CA and LaDarral A. Cooper of Portland, OR; granddaughter, Ms. Wanda Jackson of Las Vegas, NV; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Sally Burse of San Bernardino, CA; 8 great grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces.

Honorable mention to her special and caring niece, Mrs. Reba Jean West of Bakersfield, CA and her best buddy, Betty 'B. T.' Stone.

She was loved by all that knew her and she will be greatly missed.
