James Lee Burrough, age 77 of Wanette, OK, passed away Thursday, July 26th, 2018, at Norman Regional Healthplex.
James was born September 23rd, 1940 in Indiahoma, OK, the only child of James Willis Burrough and Anna Beatrice (Armstrong) Burrough. James' father passed away when he was just a toddler, and he and his mother eventually settled in Oklahoma City. He attended Central High School and graduated in 1958.
James joined the Air National Guard and served for 6 years. He married young and to this union, two daughters, Lynn and Tracy were born. James began working in outdoor advertising and spent the next 41 years serving Oklahoma and surrounding areas. His experience was invaluable as both construction and operations manager. He retired from Donrey Outdoor Advertising in 2000.
James always had a love for the land, and in the mid-90s he bought and moved to a farm near Wanette, OK. A few years after settling there, he fell in love with a long-time friend, Jaynie Louise Stricklen. They married in Cheyenne, WY, on July 20th, 2001. With this union, he gained three step-sons - Nathan, Chris, and Kelly Stricklen.
After retirement, James worked for his good friend Tommy McPherson helping him run cattle, cut hay, and farm. He enjoyed calf roping and was always ready to teach young 'uns the ways of roping. James cherished his girls and loved spoiling his grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be dearly missed!
He was preceded in death by: His parents James Willis Burrough and Anna Burrough.
James is survived by: The love of his life, Jaynie Burrough, Daughter Lynn Griswold and husband Bob, of Geary, OK; and grandchildren Sarah, Sage, and Shay. Daughter Tracy Wright and husband Michael Adams of Lantana, TX; and grandson Ethan. Step-son Nathan Stricklen and wife Shannon of Durant, OK; granddaughter Kaci Rodriguez and husband Zeke, and granddaughters Kindal and Kaiden. Step-son Chris Stricklen and wife Sabrina of Holcomb, MS; and grandson Cody Stricklen and wife Liz; granddaughter Loran Lane and husband Justin; granddaughter Emily Stricklen; grandson Nate Martinez. Step-son Kelly Stricklen and wife Shelly of Stillwater, OK; and grandchildren Wade and Kaley. James also has 5 great-grandchildren, with two additional on the way.
A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 4, 2018, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel.
