Darryle Bruce Burris

Darryle Bruce Burris
July 20, 1952 ~ May 19, 2018

Darryle Bruce Burris was born to J.C. (Sr.) and Faye (Goodmon) Burris on July 20, 1952 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  He was the second of five sons.

Darryle attended elementary school in Oklahoma City until the family relocated to Logan County in 1963.  In Logan County, he attended elementary school in Langston and secondary school in Guthrie. While in high school, Darryle was a member of the Guthrie High School football & baseball teams. He was a proud member and graduate of the Guthrie High School class of 1970.

In the fall of 1970, Darryle enrolled at Langston University.  After one year of college, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Darryle attended basic military training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. After graduating from basic and tech school, he was assigned to Barksdale AFB in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he served as a military police officer.  While stationed at Barksdale, Darryle met and married Clarice Crew of Shreveport, Louisiana.  To this union, one daughter, LaTaushia, was born in 1972. LaTaushia was the apple of her dad's eye.

Upon his discharge from the military, Darryle relocated to Logan County. He worked several jobs including, as a security guard at the Guthrie Job Corps Center. Darryle later married Sheryl Bigsby of Berkeley, California.

Leaving Oklahoma again, he moved to San Diego, California in 1978.  Darryle lived in the San Diego area for several years. Due to declining health, Darryle moved back to Oklahoma, where he spent the remaining years of his life.

Back in Oklahoma, Darryle accepted Jesus as his Lord and personal Savior, uniting with Fairview Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J. A. Reed, Jr.  Later, he united with Christian Faith Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Eddie F. Baker where he remained a faithful member until called to spend eternity with the Lord.  Darryle was active in various activities including singing in the men's chorus at Christian Faith Baptist Church and helping to serve the needy at venues in Oklahoma City.

Darryle was called from labor to reward on Saturday, May 19, 2018.  All of his suffering and agony ceased at that time. A void has been left in the hearts of his loved ones and his many friends.

Darryle was predeceased by his father, J.C Burris Sr., his younger brother, J.C. Burris Jr. and sister-in-law, Earlene Burris.

Surviving and left to cherish his memory are his loving daughter, LaTaushia Hall and grandchildren, Isayah Hall and Leila Fradiue of San Bernadino, CA, his mother, Faye Burris of Guthrie, brothers Donald (Joyce) Burris of Ft Worth, TX, Rodney Burris of Guthrie and Reginald (Kay) Burris of Oklahoma City, plus sisters-in-law Debra Burris of Oklahoma City and Louise Burris of Foreman, AR, uncle A.J. (Flo) Burris of Oklahoma City, aunts Earnestine McClellon and Ella Mucker both of Edmond, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.

Memorial services to celebrate Darryle's life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Smith Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Eddie F. Baker officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to the American Heart Association, 3401 NW 63rd St., #200, Oklahoma City, OK 73116
