Louis Jay Burkhart

August 13, 1949 ~ November 3, 2007

Louis Jay Burkhart, 58, of Midwest City, passed away November 3, 2007. Born on August 13, 1949 in Cawood, KY to Grover and Ruth Burkhart, Louis grew up in Ohio with his brother and four sisters.

Aside from being a good student academically, Louis was also a terrific athlete growing up, earning letters in football, basketball, swimming and baseball.

Following his high school graduation, he proudly served his country in the Air Force, retiring after 22 years of service, upon which he began his work for the State of Oklahoma.

His strong work ethic eventually led him to the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, where he served as the Director of Personnel. Louis enjoyed many things throughout his life, from his devoted love of his wife, family and friends, to his love of Sooner football. Louis also had a love for reading, sports, politics, lawn and gardening, traveling, dancing with his wife, as well as lending a helping hand to anyone and everyone who needed it. Whether it was with his family, friends or co-workers, Louis was always the man that could be counted on to be there for anyone who needed him.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Billie.

He is survived by his beloved wife Rita of the home, his two sons Chris and David of Midwest City and Norman, his brother Jerry and sisters Bernice of Galion, OH and Gail and Carol of Tennessee.

He will be forever missed and loved by everyone who knew him.

Wake will be held at 7PM Thursday, 11/8 at Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10AM Friday, 11/9 at St. James Catholic Church in Oklahoma City.
