Fleetie (McCormack) Burkeen

October 24, 1905 ~ June 2, 2002

Fleetie (McCormack) Burkeen passed away June 2, 2002 at her home in Caruthersville, MO at the age of 96 years, seven months and nine days.

Fleetie was born October 24, 1905 in Center Point, TN to the late Wiley and Ida Mae (Mitchell) McCormack. She was united in marriage to Gilbert Cordy Burkeen on August 10, 1924.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three grandsons: Gary Walker, Steve Burkeen and Maxell Ruth; three great-grandsons: Paul Brewer, Patrick Gallaher and Adam Walker; one great-granddaughter: Caroline Grace Howard and three sisters.

She is survived by four sons: Roy Burkeen and wife Shirley of Cordell, Jerry Burkeen of St. Louis, MO, Ed Burkeen and wife Bonnie of Memphis, TN and George Thomas Burkeen and wife Gail of New Orleans, LA; five daughters: Jewel "Mrs. Creed Walker" of Caruthersville, MO, Alvis "Mrs. Ken Burch” of Owensville, MO, Irene "Mrs. William Riley" of Memphis, TN, Mary "Mrs. James Underwood" of Hayti, MO and Pauline "Mrs. James Cunningham" of Mechesny Park, Illinois; four God children: Bob Burkeen and wife Joanne of Broken Arrow, OK, Truman Burkeen of Cordell, OK, Loyce Hooper and husband Harold of Waverly, TN and Connie Mulliniks of Kennett, MO; 41 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren, one sister Arbey Rainey of California and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Pallbearers were Jerry Burkeen, Ed Burkeen, Bob Burkeen, Donald Ruth, Ricky Walker and Shane Burkeen.

Fleetie visited Cordell in March of 2002 and spent five weeks with her son Roy Burkeen and his family. She attended church occasionally during her stay in Cordell. She thought it was a lovely place and had very nice people. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
