Laura (Gessel) Burke

Laura (Gessel) Burke
April 15, 1954 ~ June 21, 2019

Laura Marion Burke, age 65 of Guthrie, Oklahoma passed away June 21, 2019 in Guthrie. Laura was born on April 15, 1954 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Raymond and Geraldine Gessel.

Laura grew up in Tonkawa, Oklahoma and attended Tonkawa Public Schools and graduated in 1973. She married Clinton (Clint) Burke on March 13, 1976 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Tonkawa. She received her Associates Degree from Northern Oklahoma College in 1975. Laura helped Clint support her family through various jobs over the years. Laura had a strong love of animals her entire life and always had dogs and cats as part of her family. She also loved the outdoors and spent many years with her husband and three sons going camping, rafting, hiking, so they could enjoy the earth’s natural beauty.

Survivors include her husband Clint Burke of the home in Guthrie, her sons Christopher (Chris) Burke and his wife Michaela (Shay) of Nashville, TN; Eric Burke and Brian (Bo) Burke and grandson Logan Burke, all of Guthrie. She is also survived by siblings, Jane Wolfe of Ponca City, Bernice Reed of Sterling CO, Teresa Gessel of Denver, CO, Steve Gessel and Ben Gessel both of Tonkawa, Christine Sifuentes of Grapevine, TX and Sherri Davidson of Sterling, CO. Laura was proceeded in death by her parents, Raymond and Geraldine and her siblings Raymond (Ray) Gessel, Joyce Wilkins, Frances Gessel, Ruth Gessel and Sister-In-Law Bernice (Niece) Gessel. She also has many nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law and friends who were an important part of her life.

Laura’s kind and gentle personality will be missed by all of us who knew her and were fortunate enough to have her in our lives. She had a deep love and friendship with her husband, each of her sons and grandson, always keeping their well being as her main focus regardless of any adversity she faced in her life. She showed her love for all of us through her small gestures of caring and concern: a phone call, a greeting card, a text message. Her passing leaves an immense void in our family.

A memorial service for Laura will be held on July 1, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the Hayes Funeral Home Chapel.
