Dorothy Jean Burgett was born October 28, 1947, to Earnest Thomas and Etta Lucille Busby in Turlock, California. She departed this life January 28, 2025, at her home, peacefully, surrounded by her family.
Dorothy (Dot) Jean Busby married Larry Wayne Burgett on October 30, 1965, and they shared 59 beautiful years together. Dorothy grew up near Bristow, Oklahoma, attending Bristow Public Schools and later completing her Junior and Senior years at Ozark Adventist Academy.
Throughout her life, Dorothy exemplified dedication, hard work, and faith. She worked at Fisher Farms for Helen and Ernest Fisher, and she was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Dorothy was deeply involved in her church community, volunteering with Pathfinders, Dorcas, and providing disaster relief. Her passion for helping others extended into her professional life. She owned and operated Dot’s Merle Norman in Bristow during the 1980s and later proudly earned her GED in 1995. Dorothy then attended cosmetology school so she could work alongside her daughters.
Dorothy and Larry began their married life in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, before building their family home near Slick, where they raised their children and resided for the past 51 years. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family above all else.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Wayne Burgett, and their three children; Sheila Knott and husband, Lyle of Bristow, Earl Wayne Burgett and wife Lynne of Oklahoma City, Cathleen Chapman and husband Kevin of Bristow; Dorothy’s legacy continues through her grandchildren, Kyle Knott and wife Morgan of Pryor, Lauren Olson and husband Nick of Bixby, Courtney Bellville and husband Bobby of Bristow, Kolton Knott and wife Lauren of Chandler, Christopher Burgett of Oklahoma City, Cory Burgett of Oklahoma City, Tiara Logan and husband Scott of McAlester, Molly Brown of Bristow, Maggie McCleery and husband Kevin of Sapulpa, Hallee Schonfield of Bristow, Morgan Chapman of Tulsa, and Jacob Schonfield of Norman; She was also blessed with great grandchildren, Jeremy Knott and wife Sierra of Chouteau, Emma Nicole Olson, Karson Dean Knott, Alexis Grace Bellville, Blaze ‘Leigh Anne McCleery, Liam Dean McCleery, Lincoln Wayne Bellville, Henley, Haisley, and Noah Logan; and two great great grandchildren, Marshall and Ansleigh Knott. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Lucille Busby; her brother, Ernie Busby; and her sister, Sue Looney.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at 2pm on February 8, 2025, at the Free Will Baptist Church.
Dorothy will be remembered for her unwavering faith, love for her family, and selfless devotion to helping others. Her family extends their deepest gratitude for the love and support during this time of loss. She will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bristow Seventh-Day Adventist Church, in memory of Dorothy Burgett.
